Research project for Mitacs Globalink 2026 (scalability track, TCDT Lab, supervised by Prof. Sara Rouhani) measuring transaction finality on Ethereum Layer 2 rollups at three trust levels: when the sequencer accepts a transaction, when its batch is posted to Ethereum, and when it is proven or its challenge window closes.
The study is purely observational: two of the three timestamps come from Ethereum rather than the rollup, so it measures public networks without hosting any infrastructure. It collected 2,485 transactions across 60 benchmark runs on zkSync and OP Stack, with a 98.9% success rate.
Includes a data audit that cross-checks stored receipts and batch mappings against live RPC data, documents measurement caveats such as client delay and batch clustering, and generates handbooks and figures reproducibly from the raw data.
